Death

Ok, lets talk about this huge, gigantic elephent in the room, which no one wants to talk about!
What happens to us after we die? It is the most inevitable thing, a sure fact, a reality in the future, which is more real than anything.
The fact that the sun rises in the east, may be proved false someday but this will always remain a fact that you are going to die.
Are you afraid of death? This is not a stupid question. Are you? Because most people are afraid of death, but only because it brings about the unknown. We don’t know what is going to happen after death. And we imagine death to be very painful.
But the biggest reason we all are afraid to die, is because we think it will eliminate our personality, our sense of ‘I’. Our life of 70, 80, 100 years, when we are a kid, grow up, get married, and grow old, we have a certain fondness with ourselves. We love to listen to our name. We like to get educated, so that we can be called a doctor or an MBA.(not me!) All of the love we have for ourselves, extends to our house, family, car… whatever things we want to associate with us.
The name we earn in society, the respect, the trust, and of course the material possesions, we like to attach to ourselves as closely as possible.
Death seem like a flood that will take away everything, as we ourselves would cease to exist. So no more Mr. (insert your name) that exists! He was a great man! He is gone now! Left everything behind: family, money, house!
I would like to give a name to this tendency: our attachment to our ego.
Our fear of death is what makes us hoard money, commit crime (sometimes horrible crimes), get attached to wealth, buy insurance, and spend so much in health costs.
So death is not a problem, its only a fact. Problem is the fear of death. These two are separate things.
What if after death the ego does not die? Just the old body dies, and ‘WE’ as a personality remain? Can that be possible? The Geeta tells us that we are souls, not bodies, so we don’t really die, only the body dies. We are eternal, and have been alive since eternity and will be alive forever… that is what is written in the holy book.
And eventually this fear of death is what makes us look towards God, otherwise we will be too busy either working or partying! Who has time for God? He has to get our attention by giving us pain, so that we remember him!
I have seen and heard of spiritual people who have conquered death. They are so close to God that they are already dead, yet alive. So they know the secrets we don’t know, and are not afraid of anything, including Death.
The hindus do have the ‘re-incarnation’ belief, and it fits well with the ‘Karma’ theory too. So we keep on getting new bodies to enjoy our good and bad deeds!
That is all I can say, rest i don’t really know…… what do you think?
